The Koori Knockout Rugby League tournament is an annual gathering that brings Indigenous communities together from states all around the country to celebrate their culture and showcase their skills on the field. It is arguably the biggest Indigenous sporting event in the country and has been a cherished tradition for the community since its first year in 1971.
The Tournament also includes events and markets, traditional food which makes it a unique and inclusive festival. The Koori Knockout creates a sense of community and belonging among Indigenous people from all over the state. This opportunity to reconnect with the community and showcase their talent provides a fun and eventful weekend.
WCG Security was proud to be involved in the event in 2022, providing over 85 security guards to ensure the safety and security of all attendees. We covered all aspects of event security, including crowd control, access management, and patrols of the event grounds, and trained to control any emergencies that arose
The tournament also provided an opportunity for Indigenous Rugby League Players to showcase their skills and potentially be noticed by Scouters for the NRL. Many professional players have participated in the event, including current and former players of the NRL, such as Lattrell Mitchel, Josh-Ado-Carr, and more.
The Koori Knockout took place over the long weekend of October and is held at various venues around New South Wales, the winner of the previous event hosts the next. This makes it one of the largest Indigenous Sporting Events in Australia.
The event was a resounding success, with no major incidents reported. Our team worked diligently to ensure the safety and security of all attendees, and we are proud to say that we were able to maintain a high level of vigilance throughout the duration of the event.
